De Bartoli's entry Marsala is a perfect place to start to get familiar with their style. Their dedication to hand harvested, estate grown Grillo, rather than Catarratto, lifts the freshness and acidty of the final wine. This is the only wine from De Bartoli that does see fortification. They add a dose of Grillo distillate, also their estate fruit- a very rare practice! Aging takes place in french oak for 4 years with regular topping up, so this is not oxidative. So nutty! Almond and hazelnuts abound with a touch of maple. So richly broad and all encompassing without cloying sweetness.
