De Bartoli 1988 Marsala Superiore Oro Riserva

The winemaking here starts very similarly to the 'Vigna La Miccia 5 Year'. After the year in wood & fortification, this Riserva instead goes into the 'perpetuo' solera system with no topping up, making it oxidative. After that, even more aging in barrel takes place, and in this case for 37 years before bottling in 2025! Residual sugar is in the 50-60 grams per liter range and it drinks semi-dry. This is an incredibly special bottle of wine with tons of rich spices, baked stonefruit, candied citrus, dried apricots & raisins. If you know anyone turning 40 in 2028, this could be a really fun wine to gift or sip with them!
