Berry-Althoff NV Vin de France Fafar (23/24)

Fafar is a Méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine made of Grenache, Rolle, Bourboulenc and Carignan, all planted in Saint-Mamert-du-Gard on yellow marl soils. The grapes are from the 2023 vintage, with some added must from 2024 to kick off the second fermentation. The wine spends twelve months on lees before being disgorged by hand. It is elegant with fine bubbles, showing great energy and freshness with some texture and hints of brioche. The finish is dry and mineral with lingering acidity, all perfectly in balance. It's a great alternative to Champagne and certainly punches above its price point, great for a celebration but not something you'd regret drinking on an average weekday!
