Taille aux Loups 2022 Montlouis "Clos de Mosny"

(Arrives 10/1) Clos de Mosny, a 12-hectare south- and southwest-facing clos (the walls of which run for 1.6 kilometres) located a couple of kilometres south of Husseau  The soils are superficially sand and flint, but dig deeper and the shovel soon hits clay and limestone, going some way to explain the value of this particular vineyard. The best part of the vineyard with 40 too 50 year-old vines is used for the "Clos de Mosny" cuvee, which is ferented and aged in barrel, new to 4 year-old. "There's flinty, smoky, salty reduction going on here, but it's well-judged and lends an extra layer of complexity, as well as providing additional tension. Excellent precision defines the mid-palate, but there's still a generosity and softness that lends charm with structure.
