The 2022 Cady Coteaux du Layon Saint-Aubin is from grapes harvested in successive "tries" at the end of October, with approximately 70% botrytized fruit. The wine shows "a finely polished light gold hue in the glass. Despite this apparent role for botrytis the aromatics feel very pure, with yellow peach, mango and apricot. It continues with a beautifully proportioned palate, with a purity of fruit which mirrors the nose, featuring tangerine, mango and peach, underpinned by a fine thread of phenolics, a delicate bitterness and fresh acidity. This is an absolute charmer which has absolutely everything it needs, including an exquisite definition which is the Cady hallmark, leading into a long, powdery, slightly bitter, acid-washed finish. This would be great as an apéro, or with rich fruit desserts. The residual sugar is 90 g/l, and the alcohol on the label is 11.5%. (Thanks again to Chris Kissack for his amazingly detailed reporting on all things Loire.)
