Envinate 2016 Benje Blanco

We have the great pleasure of offering a perfectly aged white wine from the Canary Islands - the 2016 Benje Blanco from Envinate! Thanks to our friends at José Pastor Selections, three cases of this exquisitely aged wine became available and we leaped at the opportunity to have this wine on the shelf... though probably not for long! We highly recommend grabbing a few bottles!

Listán Blanco from high elevation (1000-1200m) vineyards on the sunny, dry and continental north-west side of Mount Teide, near the town of Santiago del Teide. The vineyard was planted 70-100 years ago, and the soils are sandy and volcanic. All grapes are harvested by hand and a small subset macerate on the skins for several days. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts, mostly in concrete, with a small percentage of used French oak, some of the wine ages under flor for several months. Listan Blanco is also known as Palomino and the profile is unmistakable here, even more so with the subtle oxidative notes from the flor. -BF/EL

The 2016, tasted in May of 2024, has aged beautifully, reminding me of the first time my mind and palate were blown away by a Canary Island white. Still worthy of further cellaring, it shows remarkable balance and finesse, zero reduction, and just a touch of Canary volcanic smokiness. -EL
