Pinon 2025 Vouvray Silex Noir

Our friend Julien Pinon produces sensational Vouvray at his estate in Vallée du Cousse and the 2025 Silex Noir is another superb example. From approximatley 40 year-old vines on soils of clay and black flint over limestone in the vineyards of Terné and Batailleries. (2025: 13% alc; 21.8 gr/l RS; 5.65 gr/l total acidity) The 2025 Silex Noir shows more restrained aromas than the "Trois Argiles" of citrus, white flowers, pear, heirloom apple, mint, hay and earth, very slightly honeyed. The palate is dense and intensely mineral, with subtle white fruits covered by the dense chalky texture finishing with a nice bitter kick of lemon, firm acidity and minerals. Serve now with a grilled fish, goat cheeses, fruit desserts perhaps, but this is a great candidate for the cellar that will really sing with 10 to 30 years of aging. Beautiful wine! David Lillie
