Luneau-Papin 2023 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Vera Cruz
We loved the first vintage of Vera Cruz in 2015, then a new cuvée from Luneau-Papin, from 50 year-old vines on a terroir of schistes and gneiss "a deux micas" in Vallet, farmed with organic and biodynamic methods. The 2023 is even better! "It opens with an intense and lightly smoky nose filled with crushed limestone and white chocolate, freshened by a flinty reduction. The joy continues on the palate which is beautifully textured, full and fresh, with velvety citrus fruits, filled with fine minerals and fresh acids, giving lift to what is a rather voluptuous palate. A clean finish, long, bitter, acid-fresh and charged, this is a beautiful showing" (Chriss Kissack) Perfect now with oysters, grilled dorade, sole, cod and scallops with lemon. Or cellar - this wine should be very interesting in 5 to 15 years. Label inspired by Mondrian and the varied terroirs of Muscadet. DL
