Batardiere, Marie-Lise & Thomas 2022 Les Noels de Montbenault

Out of stock

Les Noels de Montbenault is a beautiful wine that comes from a unique parcel Batardiere planted in 2014 on a site used by Richard Leroy, which consists of a very unique soil composed of volcanic rock called rhyolite, full of quartz and silica crystals and rare in Anjou. It undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to 500 liter oak barrels for aging. Native yeasts are used for fermentation and minimal sulphur is added at bottling. It's a deep gold in the glass and upon opening there's some subtle reduction, but the kind that adds complexity and depth without being offputting in any way. The reduction blows off as it opens up and reveals delicate apple and pear fruit along with a deep, intense minerality that comes through more with time. There is incredible purity and precision - it coats the palate in a way that feels like a nice warm hug for your tongue, with mouthwatering acidity and a lingering finish which will keep you going back for more. This is a truly special wine from a unique terroir that will continue to develop gracefully for many years.
