Closel 2023 Savennières Les Caillardières (Arrives 8/18)

Notes from recent vintages - "Caillardières" is from a vineyard which sits up the slope from the Clos du Papillon and the Moulin du Gué. "The grapes are harvested later ; the berries are golden, producing wines with aromas of baked apple, exotic fruits, raisins and toasted almonds. That terroir gives the wine a very silky texture, characteristic of these sandstone schist parcels." Pre 2023 the higher acidity of "Les Caillardières" was softened with residual sugar - tasting the 2023 last February was a new experience as the grapes from this beautiful site were fermented to complete dryness - zero RS - producing a profound and very mineral, focused expression. The aromas were floral and beautiful with a full bodied palate of complex yellow fruits, earth and mineral flavors and a vibrant finish. The 2023 "Les Caillardières" is a superb wine and will age into one of the most beautiful of Savennières! Congratulations to new wine director Antoine Fardeau!
