Cady 2022 Anjou Blanc "Moulin Ste. Catherine"
While most of the Cady vines are in St. Aubin de Luigne just above the Layon, the "Moulin Ste. Catherine" is from a north facing slope above the Loire in Rochefort-sur-Loire, adjacent to the famous Baumard "Clos Ste. Catherine." The grapes are harvested late for optimum maturity and the wine is vinified and aged in Italian "cocciopesto" amphora. "I find a polished and tense character on the nose which seems to reflect this vinification, with layers of crushed chalk, citrus peel and lemon pith fruit. This continues on the palate which is tense and strict, with finely polished citrus pith notes, wrapped in confident ribbons of acidity and minerality. A notable sensation of form and energy for such a warm and dry vintage here, which I find impressive." (Wine Doctor 2/24) Serve it as an aperitif, with scallops, fish in sauce, white meats with cream and mushrooms and hard cheeses, say the Cadys.
