Beguet, Patrice 2021 Les Vins de L'Ame Ours VDF Fresh Impression Rouge

2021 was a tough year for red grapes in the Jura... in fact it was just a tough year for grape-growing in general in the area! Luckily, Patrice Beguet was able to access fruit from organic grower-producers in other parts of France, through a collective that he is a part of. The yummy 2021 Fresh Impression Rouge is a blend of 60% Mourvèdre and 20% Grenache from Claude Ughetto in the Var (north of Bandol/Provence), and 20% Gamay from Domaine Trichon in the Bugey. Like the Fresh Impression white, Patrice employed direct press for the majority of the fruit (albeit red grapes in this case), with just 20% of the grapes going through a short maceration. The result is an extremely light and acid-driven, thirst-quenching "red" that begs for a chill.
