Loire Valley Whites: Muscadet, Chenin and more!

5/30/26 -

There is a lot of great wine in today's offer of new arrivals and returning favorites - to give you an idea, here are the producers in alphabetical order: Batardière, Boudignon, Boulay, Chidaine, Delrieu-Ducleux, Delmée, Landron, Pépière, Pinon and Tabordet!

A few notes:
We're very excited to have a refreshingly vibrant current vintage of the Jo Landron Muscadet "Amphibolite" back in the store! 2025 is a superb vintage for this scintillating wine, the number one choice for oysters, mussels and grilled fish this summer. But beware, not much wine made it to NY so grab some before it disappears!

We're also excited to have two superb wines from Domaine Luneau-Papin back in the store! The "L" D'Or is one of the very greatest Muscadet (I remember the 1976 that spent 6 years on the lees!) and 2022 is a superb vintage for this wine - for current drinking or cellaring of 20 to 30 years. The 2023 Vera Cruz, from 50 year-old vines on a terroir of schistes and gneiss "a deux micas" in Vallet, is superb as well, enjoy it over the next 15 years...

We've been waiting for several weeks for this moment: It's Anjou Time! 2024 was an ideal vintage for Chenin Blanc in the region. You may have heard that it was generally cold and grey, but it turns out Chenin doesn't need a lot of sun or heat (according to our friend Thomas Batardiere), and often is even better in these types of vintages than in hot, sunny ones! We can attest, and have these wines to prove it. Both the party-ready Pablo est au Bar and the more age-worthy Ch'nins on Boit from Philippe Delmee are singing in '24. The impressive and expressive '24s from Julien Delrieu and Thibaut Ducleux (Delrieu-Ducleux) are NOT to be missed. Saying that they over-deliver for the price is an understatement. Their La Joue is fresh and ready for drinking now, and their top Chenin, Le Jeau Blanc, from vines next to Bernaudeau's Nourissons vineyard, is worthy of cellaring (or a long decant if you're drinking soon). Thibaud Boudignon's wines are also floating around the city at the moment, so we figured we should include them now (what better time?!). Please note, though our cost on the wines has increased quite a bit since last vintage, we decided to keep the prices the same - or lower - and offer them net-priced, with no discount applicable. Finally, you may have missed some of the 2024s from Marie-Lise and Thomas Batardiere when we offered them on pre-arrival basis in April, but fear not, we saved some stock and they are here in NY now!

Our tasting with Francois Chidaine last winter was a wonderful experience with the 2024 "Les Bournais" and 2024 "Baudoin," two of the greatest wines in Montlouis and Vouvray respectively, showing sensationally in this difficult but great vintage for Loire Chenin. The 2024 Vin de France (Vouvray) "Les Argiles" and the 2023 Montlouis "Les Choisilles" also showed beautifully. Rarely available in the US, the 2022 Vin de France (Vouvray) Petillant was absolutely delightful and is highly recommended for your spring/summer gatherings! (Pictured above: "Les Bournais," the Loire River is just below)

Our offer today is capped with another favorite from Vouvray, this time courtesy of Julien Pinon: the Buvez du Bon Pinon 2023. Last but not least, a couple of Sancerres! For value and quality, the crisp and lively 2024 Tabordet Sancerre should be on your tables this summer - it's certified organic and Biodynamic and made with minimal SO2 - and it's' a superb value at only $26.99! The Gerard Boulay Sancerre from Chavignol is also sure to please.
