Julian Haart and Weiser-Künstler The First 2025's from Germany

5/27/26 -

I am incredibly excited to introduce the first arrivals of the 2025 vintage from Germany with the wines of two of our favorite producers in the Mosel: Julian Haart and Weiser-Künstler. The 2025 growing season began early and was vigorous. Fortunately the late frosts of 2024 did not occur! The summer was warm and sunny which pushed development early, some rain required very close monitoring of grape health but those who paid close attention were rewarded with incredible fruit. Harvest was on average earlier than normal, but most brought grapes in with great physiological ripeness. In the Mosel, yields were 10-20% lower than average so not the best news, but the grapes harvested were of the best quality: intense aromas with fine acidity and excellent balance. At early stages, the wines have shown promise of clarity and tension, winemakers are already noting how it is a vintage with great aging potential. I am excited to continue to tasting the 2025s which are clearly on track to be another stunner of a vintage, albeit with less quantity than ideal.

It seemed almost natural to offer out these wines side by side, as two of the original four producers that our friends at Vom Boden first imported, both of these husband-and-wife duos do almost everything on their own and by hand. They make some of the most insane Rieslings around and we are very excited to have the newest vintage here. With the lower yields, we are seeing slightly more limited quantities from these two than we have received in the past, so I recommend snagging some of these now as they will not hang around for too long. Across both producers, pricing is almost identical to those of last year which for me is a huge win.

The Haart family can be traced back to 1337, but Julian only began estate-bottling in 2010. Prior to this he worked with inarguably two of the greatest estates in Germany: Egon Muller and Keller. It is no wonder that his wines have grown to such acclaim with a resume like that. His reputation increased greatly in the late 2010's and his wines have been sought after treasures since! Today, his estate encompasses about 5 hectares of vines and he plans to keep it that way. He and his wife Nadine do almost all the vineyard and cellar work themselves with the occasional help from friends. The two of them are crafting exceptional wines with intense purity of fruit and sharp, polished acidity. Today we are excited to share the first releases of their 2025s with 1,000L für Lottie (a nod to Collin Wagner of Vom Boden’s daughter Lottie who was born in 2025), J.J. Kabinett, and Moselle. Three wines that are a stunning entry into the world of Julian and Nadine Haart.

Weiser-Künstler is the husband-and-wife team of Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler. The couple began their estate in 2005 with the purchase of a parcel of vines in Ellergrub. This has expanded over the years to encompass 4.3 hectares of very steep, mainly ungrafted wines in Ellergrub, Gaispfad, and Steffensberg. They farm everything organically (certified) which especially with their steep vineyards is no small feat! Just like Julian and Nadine, they farm everything manually and make Rieslings that are ethereal, and pure. There is something so special and unique about these wines that you truly just need to taste to understand. We are proud to offer their Riesling Feinherb, Trarbacher Trocken, and Trarbacher Schlossberg Kabinett today.
