Incredible Value in Vosne-Romanée with Domaine Jean Chauvenet
2/24/2025

Today's offer is an exciting rarity if I've ever seen one. In an area of the wine world where we are constantly looking for the new and exciting (something I myself am also guilty of) today we show off an estate that has been making wine for a fairly long time and doing so organically at a much more approachable price point than most, in some of Burgundy's best real estate too! Our rep Tobias at Rosenthal brought this beautiful wine by just last week and I could not wait to write about it. 2021 Domaine Jean Chauvenet is some of the most delicious, fair priced lieu-dit Burgundy we have seen in a while, sub $90 on the shelf with a special deal on todays offer but I will circle back to that later. This Vosne-Romanee is perfumed with red berries, dried red florals and a spicy elegance. The palette is perfectly ripe with incredible freshness! At a great drinking point now but could also be cellared for 5+ years too.
Jean Chauvenet, the founder of the Domaine alongside his son-in-law Christophe Grad have created a true name for themselves as some of the most respected producers in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Rosenthal Wine Merchants explain how "The estate’s holdings are farmed with the underlying objective of achieving certification as an organic grower in the coming years. Harvest is manual. Vinification is classic with 100% destemming and a brief period of cold maceration followed by two to three weeks of cuvaison, the length of which is determined by the appellation and the inherent structure of each wine. A decanting follows and then the wine is moved into small barrels where the malolactic occurs. An elevage of about 18 months occurs and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration." They have a way of truly making terroir driven wines. Although most of their vines are in Nuits-Saint-Georges (including 7 premier crus) Aux Raviolles is a small 0.31 hectare plot of 40 year old vines in the southern end of Vosne-Romanee.
