When I first started here at CSW two years ago, one of my first email offers was a highlight of all things Aligoté. Last fall I did another selection continuing to find as many new and exciting producers as I could, and today I am thrilled to come to you again with a fun, fresh list of some of the best Aligoté around from a wide array of producers, villages, and price points. With its third iteration, I think it is safe to call it an annual offering now, and since Aligoté is everyone's second favorite white grape in Burgundy, we should be drinking it much more frequently! 

A cross between Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc, Aligoté accounts for just 6.5% of vines within Burgundy, but it continues to be one of the most exciting wines from top producers alike. What was once produced to make a Kir, can now hold its ground next to so many other fantastic white wines. I believe enjoying a winemaker's Aligoté is the best way to introduce yourself to their style, with most growers showing just as much care and attention to it as they do to their top wines. 2023 Boyer-Martenot Bourgogne Aligoté
Vincent Boyer is a 4th generation vigneron and has been at the helm of his family domaine since 2010. When he took the reins, Vincent began farming organically and has shown a true dedication to the family’s old vines. His goal is to have balance and freshness in his wines with true terroir. From 40 year old vines within Meursault on Clay-limestone soils. Fermented and aged in older barrels for 12 months and concrete eggs for 8 months. A beautifully textured wine with a slightly waxy finish, showcasing all that Aligoté from 40 year old vines within Meursault on Clay-limestone soils can be.

2024 Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne Aligoté
Domaine Cathiard was established in the 1930s and is now on the 4th generation. Sebastien (Sylvain's son) joined his father at the domaine in the late 2000s and fully took charge in 2011. With their impressive holding of vineyards centered in Vosne-Romanee, the spotlight has been on the domaine as one of the best in the region for years. Sebastien makes wines of exceptional energy and purity of fruit with incredible depth of flavor.
Sourced from vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges and the Hautes-Cotes, with a majority of vines being 50-80 years old and all planted on deep clay soils. The wine is fermented with ambient yeast and then aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. This only helps to retain as much freshness and brightness and possible, just as with his red wines, there is intense purity and minerality.

2023 Chantereves Bourgogne Aligoté Maibey Elevage Prolongué
Wife and Husband team of Tomoko Kuriyama and Guillaume Bott met in 2005 working in the cellars at Domaine Simon Bize. In 2012 Tomoko relocated to Burgundy, and Chanterêves was born. Between 2012-2020 both Tomoko and Guillaume kept their respective day jobs at other domaines building up their négociant work with Chanterêves. In 2020 they became a full-fledged domaine acquiring 4.9 hectares of vineyards. All vineyards are farmed organically with some incorporation of biodynamic practices. Year after year, Tomoko and Guillaume continue to make wines of freshness and precision. 
The lieu-dit Mainbey is located in the Haute Cotes de Beaune across a valley from the village of Fussey at an altitude of 470 meters. They are some of the oldest vines in the domaine, planted in 1981 and is the stoniest parcel of Aligote from Chantereves. They press whole clusters and age in used 228-600 liter oak barrels. As an "Elevage Prolonge" the wine remains in barrel for approximately 22 months rather than the domaine's customary 17 months. This extended maturation enhances the wines' concentration, energy, and textural complexity while preserving the freshness and precision that define Chanterêves' white wines.

2021 Dujardin Bouzeron La Tournelle (750s and 1.5L)
Brother and Sister team Paul and Margaux Dujardin represent the 2nd generation of this small family Domaine. Located in the heart of the Cote de Beaune in Monthélie, their father Ulrich Dujardin arrived in Burgundy to harvest and never left. With the support of his wife Catherine, he decided to turn his passion into a profession. He began training with a local winemaker and spent a decade learning the craft before establishing Domaine Dujardin. In 2017 Margaux and Paul took over and are continuing the path of their father. They are committed to farming without the use chemicals which helps them to have the best quality grapes, and following fairly traditional winemaking methods. From a late maturing site, the last place they harvest each year. Pressed whole bunch and fermented in barrel. Aged 11-12 months in barrel with an additional 6 month in tank. The wine has incredible minerality with white florals, yellow apple, and lemon curd. A lovely balance of freshness and minerality on the palate with a touch of reduction.

2022 Elodie Roy Bourgogne Aligoté
Elodie grew up in a winemaking family in Cheilly-les-Maranges where her parents farmed about 10 hectares of vines, selling all to negociants. Initially Elodie pursued a career in law before returning to school years later to study enology. Upon graduation, her father was not yet ready to retire so she worked for Anne Gros for 11 years. In 2018 Elodie took the reins of the family's domaine, full of old vines in pristine condition. Since taking over, she has eliminated the use of chemicals, began plowing, and uses natural grassing in her plots. Her Aligoté is from very old vines near the top of the hill in Maranges with Northern exposure. Vineyards were planted between 1935-1947. Aged for 9 months in 50% stainless steel and 50% 350L oak barrels and then blended for a month before bottling. Notes of white flowers with honeyed, yellow apple. This is perfectly in balance with a slightly waxy texture and bright, refreshing acidity.

2024 Benoit Ente Bourgogne Aligoté Cuvee Antichtone
Benoit is the younger brother of Arnaud Ente and began making his own wines in 1999. After inheriting his Aunt's vines in 2014 he was able to bring his holdings up to 6 hectares. He has made an incredible reputation for his perfection in the vineyards and thoughtful winemaking practices. These wines just keep getting better. A blend from three parcels of old vine Aligoté planted in 1949, 1953, with a little in 2002. Vinified in stainless steel and then aged 18 months in Stockinger foudres. An amazing balance of freshness with tension and strong minerality. Notes of green apple and citrus zest layered with a salty finish.

2024 François Mikulski Bourgogne Aligoté
François' father was a Lieutenant that escaped occupied Poland in 1939. He fled to England where he met his future wife, a Burgundian woman working on an English army base. They married and raised François in Brussels, yet he spent his summers in Burgundy and fell in love with the lifestyle and vines, knowing one day he would make wine himself. In 1992 he inherited his first plots of Meursault and since then has been crafting elegant, powerful, wines of purity from the village. Farmed with organic practices in two plots in Meursault on the boarder of Puligny-Montrachet. The vine age here is insane, having been planted between 1929-1948! The grapes are fermented with native yeast in stainless steel and age in that as well. There are notes of lemon peel and white flowers that pair beautifully with a strikingly bright refreshing palette.

2025 Rijckaert Aligoté Bien Elevé Vieilles Vignes
This project was founded by Jean Rijckaert in 1998 after a decade of working in the Mâcon. He was able to get 4 hectares of top-quality vines in Viré (he also owns 5 hectares in the Jura). Today Jean’s understudy Florent Rouve is in charge and has continued right where Jean left off making wines focused on organic farming with ecological diversity in the vineyards and a light hand in the cellar. This Aligote comes from a vineyard located in southern Aloxe, on deep clay soils with vine age averaging about 70 years old. Manually harvested, then a long pneumatic press. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are spontaneous and made in neutral 500 liter barrels. Aged for 10 months on the lees. There is an incredible aroma of white florals, with lemon curd and minerality. This is a very classic representation of the grape with nice texture and is incredibly refreshing and easy drinking!

2023 Sylvain Morey Bourgogne Aligoté
Sylvain Morey is the brother of Caroline Morey (wife of Pierre-Yves Colin) and the son of Jean-Marc Morey. In 2014 Jean-Marc Morey was dissolved and split up between Sylvain and Caroline making what was a small family domaine much smaller! Working fewer than 3 hectares, Sylvain has made a name for himself for creating wines that are richly textured with firm mineral structure. Sylvain owns just 0.25 of a hectare of Aligoté from a vineyard called ‘Les Pierres’ just on the border of Chassagne-Montrachet Villages. The vines were planted in 1997. The wine is aged for 12 months on the fine lees in used 350 liter barrels. This is a stunning, textured Aligoté with great depth and verve.

2024 de Villaine Bouzeron
Bouzeron is the only AOC dedicated solely to Aligoté. This is in part due to the de Villaine family who fought to have it recognized as such. Located in the Côte Chalonnaise, Bouzeron is just south of Santenay and Chassagne and north of Rully. Aubert de Villaine, who has been running DRC since the mid-nineteen sixties owns this Domaine with his nephew, Pierre de Benoist managing it since 2003. Coming from 17 different parcels of Aligoté Dore in Bouzeron. Vines are 65-115 years old on clay, limestone, and marl soils. Vinified in wood foudres and then aged for 10-12 before bottling. The wine has beautiful notes of lime zest and sea breeze. It is a stunning Aligoté with great brightness and a very long finish.
