Stephan, Jean Michel 2023 Cote-Rotie Coteaux de Bassenon (Arrives 9/30)

Coteaux de Bassenon is a blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Serine, and 20% Viognier from a single parcel co-planted on granitic soils in the village of Tupin, Côte Blonde. Situated at the southernmost edge of the appellation, the vineyard lies on the border with Condrieu AOP. This historic site is home to some of the oldest vines in Côte-Rôtie, with an average age of 130 years. The 2023 is incredible, a wine that blew me away while tasting recently. The nose is deep and complex, with herbal spice and loads of energy. There's plenty of structure, with firm tannins that will ease up with a decant, or another 10-20 years in bottle. This is a truly special wine that will continue to unwind in the cellar.
