Principiano, Ferdinando 2019 Ravera Barolo di Monforte (Arrives 10/7)

1.4 hectares total, 0.6 hectares at 400m altitude of which were planted in 1934. Replacement vines are from massale selection. The soils here are more sandy, and thus more like Cannubi – i.e., more elegant and expressive at a younger age. This is the vineyard where Ferdinando started doing natural viticulture in 2002. It’s now part of the Falci Prometheus project, in which producers scythe the cover crop between rows by hand in order to help preserve biodiversity. Elevage is in very large, old botte for 2 years followed by even more in bottle.
