Coudray-Bizot 2017 Gervrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers
Locate above the village of Gevrey-Chambertin on a steep slope to the east of Clos St. Jacques, Les Cazetiers has an east-facing exposure and has soils strewn with pebbly soils. No bombast or flash, this is seamless and without affectation. Were it an actor, Helen Mirren? Lillian Gish? Lovely, precise, and subtly powerful, with great persistence and succulence on the long, vibrant finish with plenty of energy still coiled within. Certainly a pleasure to drink today, but I suspect this will gain complexity and gravitas with time in the cellar. -John McIlwain (original note for the 2010 Cazetiers, obvious geographical info is identical in 2017)
