"Chatenay" is a small parcel on a steep hillside in Chiroubles, about a kilometer north of Corcelette. The vines are about 40 years-old, on yellow sandstone. "Bouland's 2019 Chiroubles “Chatenay” is a perfect example of how well this cuvée ages, as at five years of age, it is just starting to blossom properly and drink with generosity and still has years and years of life ahead of it. The bouquet is beautifully expressive, offering up scents of red and black cherries, sweet cranberry, gamebird, a touch of orange zest, sweet brown spices, lovely soil tones, fresh thyme, woodsmoke and a lovely floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, tangy and full-bodied, with lovely depth of fruit at the core, fine mineral undertow and grip, still a wisp of backend tannin and a long, complex and perfectly balanced finish."
