Curtaz, Federico 2020 Il Purgatorio Etna Rosso

Federico Curtaz had a vast wine background before starting his own namesake project in Sicily in 2015. He collaborated with Angelo Gaja in the 80's as an agronomist and then migrated to Sicily after falling in love with its culture and wines. The Nerello Mascalese for this Etna Rosso comes from the Southern Slopes of the volcano from a contrada called 'Purgatorio'. After 1 year of neutral barrel aging and then 4 years of bottle aging, we find a wine of silky texture and aromatic profile. The wine is medium bodied at most, a pop of red fruit followed by smoke, licorice, herbs, and some warm spice.
