R. Pouillon 2020 Champagne 1er Cru Les Terres Friodes Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut
Terres Froides parcel in the village of Tauxièrres-Mutry in Montagne de Reims, and along with Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in the Vallée. The soil here is more chalk than clay which can be found closer to the village, and the cool microclimate is perfect for Chardonnay. Vinified half in neutral barrique and half in enamel and aged for 18 months before bottling, the 2019 was produced by using Fabrice’s MFP which uses the grapes own sugars to start the second fermentation. There is a tiny hint of reduction that blows off pretty quicjly and opens to a toasty, golden wine with notes of brioche and yellow apples. This is a big, powerful Champagne but has excellent freshness on the end.
