Grappe, Didier 2023 Tohu Bohu Chardonnay

Didier Grappe is a unique voice in Jura, a champion of hyrbid and long-forgotten about varietals who has vowed never to plant traditional Jura grapes again. Since 2007 he's tended to just under 5 hectares of land, land that he took over after it lay fallow for 80 years. It has never seen the use of pesticides and Didier works completely organically in the vines and naturally in the cellar, with no additions of sulfur. While Didier may not be a champion of traditional Jura varietals, this is an outstanding expression of Chardonnay that has just the right balance of finesse and Jura grit. It's textured and open, but with a strong mineral cut and great acidity that keeps it in check. It's not oxidative in style but still has that classic Jura "vibe" (for lack of a better term). A delicious wine with or without food!
