Rateau, Jean-Claude 2024 Beaune Clos des Mariages Rouge
Located toward the bottom of the slope beneath Beaune Grèves and adjacent to Les Cents Vignes, Clos des Mariages is a mix of young and very old vines planted in clay and brown limestone soils. "This fertile soil gives wines that are open and joyous, with delicate spice notes, giving great pleasure in their youth and capable of long-term aging." -Jean-Claude Rateau. The 2024 is a bit brighter than the 23 with lovely aromas of red currant, raspberry and cherry, floral and very pretty. The sapid, velvety palate shows chalky, tart cherry fruit - quite intense and mineral with bracing acidity and good length. As usual, the Rateau "Clos des Mariages" is a lovely wine and an excellent value in Burgundy - enjoy over the next ten years.
