Matthiasson 2023 Napa Valley Chardonnay Linda Vista Vineyard

These vines were planted in 1989 and converted to organic farming in 2011 when Steve took control of farming the Linda Vista Vineyard. The soils are alluvial clay with marine origin, and the cool winds keep ripenening in check while still getting plenty of sun. The grapes were picked over a span of several weeks to allow for a range of ripeness which gives the resulting wine a perfect balance of acidity and richness, without veering too far in either direction. The 2023 is a medium straw in the glass, with some lemon and orchard fruit mingling with a steely minerality that adds freshness and depth. There's texture, lift and most importantly harmony. Always a perennial favorite but particularly good in 2023!
