Matthiasson 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This is old-school Napa Cab at its finest - not overdone with new oak, lush but with great energy and always retaining good acidity. The blend in 2021 is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It clocks in at a cool 12.5% abv despite the warm vintage, while the dry growing season resulted in grapes with plenty of concentration and structure. Steve's meticulous work in the vineyard allows for full phenolic ripening while still picking early, giving great acidity and balance. It's open and plush with fine tannins, enjoyable now with a bit of air but ready to go the distance if you choose to cellar for 10 years or more.
