Los Frailes 2022 Caliza VV Valencia Tinto

Caliza is 100% Monastrell that comes from a single vineyard called “La parada de tordos” (“Thrush stop”) at 600 meters over sea level. The soils here are a blend of limestones and sandy soils (ochre rendzina). As they explain on their site: "They are very poor soils due to rich presence of limestone. However, iron offsets the effect of limestone and the good levels of magnesium allow good grape ripening and keep also good acidity levels (thanks to potassium)." Vinification and aging is in concrete vats. EL notes from tasting in 2025: Calize = limestone. Pure limestone, delicate tannins long finish very chalky medium body 3-4 meters top soil 25% with stems.
