Petterino 2015 Gattinara Riserva

A new release from Marco Petterino's is always a special day. He only farms 2.5 hectare in total and blends his top Gattinara vineyards together to make one wine (Permolone, Castelle and Guardie). He is also aging far beyond what is standard and releasing vintages as they are ready, not necessarily in chronological order. The 2015 we have today is drinking well but can surely age another decade or two. Alpine berries, burdock, licorice, pine needles, iron-y minerals and spearmint with a more angular structure. Aged for 3 years in oak followed by 6 months in stainless steel to naturally filter and years upon years of bottle aging.
