Lafouge, Jean et Gilles 2023 Auxey-Duresses Rouge

The 2022 Lafouge "village" Auxey-Duresses Rouge is a blend from Argillats, Heptures, Les Crais, Grandes Vignes, Hautés and Ecussaux (both south and northeast facing sites). "The bouquet is superb, offering up scents of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, pigeon, chalky soil tones, woodsmoke and a touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and really shows off lovely depth of fruit, with fine soil signature, moderate tannins and lovely balance on the long and nascently complex finish. Good juice." Always a great value, the 2023 village red will benefit from opening well in advance or cellaring for 3 to 5 years, then enjoy until 2040.
