Guion 2023 Bourgueil "Les Pionniers"
The new Stéphane Guion 2023 Bourgueil "Pionniers" is dedicated to Stéphane's parents, "pioneers" in organic farming beginning in 1964, among the first in France, and now biodynamic. This is his first wine vinified and bottled with zero-added sulfur dioxide! The wine shows a very bright red/black color with vivid aromas of violet, strawberry and raspberry compote, a bit of spice. The palate is light and bright with pure, velvety red and black fruits that linger in the clean, refreshing finish. It's a delightful and thirst quenching wine, great with cheese and charcuterie and lighter meals and perfect for a picnic this spring and summer, served cool. (Think of Christian Ducroux with Cabernet Franc!) As with most no-sulfur wines, we suggest consuming on the day opened, which will be very easy to do! (Re-tasted on day 2 after a night in the fridge - no mouse, just lovely velvety fruit! Thank-you Stéphane!) David Lillie
