Castellaccio 2024 Toscana Lennino
'Lennino' is an hommage to the Chianti's of 100 years ago, when Trebbiano played a valuable role in the blend of Chianti Classico. Since the addition of white grapes to Chianti was banned by the consortium in 2005, Davide of Castellaccio decided to continue making one wine in his lineup of stunning high-elevation "Mountain Sangiovese" the old fashioned way- even though he cannot legally write Chianti on the label. The name already tells the story of generations past, as 'Lennino' was the nickname given to Davide from his grandfather. Coming in at a cool 11.5% alcohol with a shining ruby color, this wine does not feel like a juicy, gulpable light red. It's dusty, savory, and high-toned, but still very distinctly sour cherry, rose petals, and spice that we expect from Chianti. After tasting this bottle a few times over 2026- it is showing incredible and at its peak now after blowing us away at a recent tasting.
