The End of an Era for Enderle & Moll

12/22/25 -

I think we often have a tendency to overlook how challenging it is for winemakers to survive. Demanding farming in climates that are often anything but friendly, followed by the challenges of vineyard work in a time when skilled labor is hard to find and the care and attention it takes for meticulous winemakers to make clean natural wines... All of these elements make it nearly impossible to produce wine year after year. Yet we get to reap the benefits of this immensely hard work by drinking delicious wines from the comfort of our homes or favorite restaurants. There comes a time when even the most talented and focused winemakers have done all they can. That time has come for Florian Moll, and 2023 will mark his last vintage.

Since Florian Moll and Sven Enderle first began making wines together in Germany in the mid-2000s, they were the first to make a more natural, and ethereal style of Spätburgunder. It was no longer just about ripeness and extraction but about the health of the vines and soils and wines with minerals, herbs, and energy. Chambers Street Wines has been offering the singular and compelling wines from Enderle & Moll since the 2007 vintage and we have proudly stocked every vintage since. The 2023s just arrived and they are nothing short of fantastic. There is a clear line from the Müller through Pinot Noir Liaison of energy, purity, and freshness. Each wine has its own sense of personality, while still keeping true to the style that is Enderle & Moll.

I would be remiss not to include some closing thoughts from their U.S. importer Stephen of Vom Boden: "Yet, as we begin to sell the final chapter, I want to focus on one of the things I loved most about these wines: They remained, always, singular and canonical, while also being for the most part available and fairly priced. For me, Enderle & Moll occupy a sacred realm not unlike Clos Roche Blanche back in the day, the wines of which I would nonchalantly buy over and over again without a thought about “collecting” or “aging” or any sort of speculation. They were simply wines to open and to enjoy; they were thrillingly honest, delicious. They had soul and character. To the very last drop, this is also Enderle & Moll. Thank you Sven and Florian, for everything."
