Rhône Valley, North and South: Rousset "Les Picaudières" and Many More...

6/6/26 -

Today's offer contains many of the Rhone wines we tasted with the winemakers last winter in France, which have just arrived at the store and warehouse, along with a few returning favorites. They represent some of the finest values in the shop - or any other shop for that matter - most for beautiful current drinking, but with some offering superb cellaring as well.

A few highlights:
Domaine Stéphane Rousset, Crozes-Hermitage
Stéphane had a small quantity of the 2022 "Les Picaudieres" still available, which he poured for us - the wine is sensational, with beautiful deep Syrah aromas, dense, complex fruit liqueur on the palate and a great mineral finish. Delicious now, best 2030-2040+.
The new 2023 Crozes-Hermitage "Les Méjeans" comes from old vines on a granite plateau near the village of Crozes - it's bright and elegant but dense, dark and very mineral as well. Drink over the next 10 years.
The Crozes-Hermitage Marsanne Vieilles Vignes is outstanding again in 2024 - ideally cellar for a few years then enjoy until 2036+

Domaine Barou, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu
The big news from Domaine Barou is their gorgeous new 2024 Condrieu "Les Mains D'Or!"  Aged in amphora, it shows lovely very floral, white fruit and citrus aromas. The palate is delicate, elegant and silky with fabulous purity of whte and yellow fruits with a long and bright finish. Suberb!
The 2024s from Barou are uniformly bright and delicious, with special mention going to the wonderful "Rendez-Vous" Marsanne Vin de Pays Collines Rhodaniennes. A Chambers Street favorite since 2009, this complex and refreshing wine is an everyday delight at $16.99!

Domaine des Amphores, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu
We have only a few bottles left of the superb 2024 Saint-Joseph Blanc "Altitude 360" but we have good stock - a whopping 4 cases - of their beautiful Vin de Pays Viognier "Les Iris!" From vines on the slope just south of Condrieu, this has the elegance and texture of the fancy AOC but without the fancy price...
The Saint-Joseph "Les Mésanges" is back after a three year absence - the 2023 really wowed the tasting panel (Jeff, Eben and David) showing classic Syrah flavors with beautiful density and length - delicious now but best in 3 to 5 years...

Heading to the Southern Rhône, we come to the hillside village of Seguret and the delicious Biodynamic wines of Pablo Hocht at Domaine de Crève Coeur. Try to ignore the low prices - these are wines of superb quality made by a passionate and talented young winemaker! All three of the 2025s are sensational, especially the gorgeous CDR Villages Seguret Blanc whch should be your house white this summer!  Made from Grenache Blanc, Picpoul, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier, Biodynamic farming, vinification and aging in old barrels. The aromas are subtle and complex with almond, citrus, pear, stone, exotic fruit, all in a bright and balanced style. The palate is ripe, round and really pretty, with a chalky limestone texture, with the Picpoul providing firm acidity underlying the lovely fruit and mineral flavors, finishing with nice ripeness, refreshing and delicious! We have 10 cases for the vintage...
And of course Pablo's more "serious" reds from Sablet and Seguret are great wines and great values!

Laurent Charvin makes perhaps the most elegant wines of the Southern Rhone - his beautiful 2023 CDR "Le Poutet"  has just returned to NY, which offers CDP quality at a CDR price! And Laurent's 2025 CDR Rosé reminds us of the Baudry Chinon Rosé, with similar elegance, silky texture and fabulous length...

And we continue to offer the last inventory from Jacqueline André of Domaine Pierre André, and our last few cases of classic old-school Gigondas from the Clos du Joncuas...
