Chambers Street Wines is proud to be the exclusive New York retailer for Thomas Boccon
Although the name Thomas Boccon is likely new to you, if you’re a lover of Meursault, there is a strong chance you have already enjoyed his winemaking. Thomas is married to Francois Mikulskis’ daughter, Anna and is currently the winemaker at the Mikulski domaine. In addition to his work for his father-in-law, Thomas makes just 10 barrels a year under his own name and label. These 10 barrels are made up of Bourgogne Blanc Cote d’Or, Meursault, and just 1 barrel of Meursault 1er Cru Pourzots!
Boccon was born in Dijon and began working with Francois Mikulski in 2011 while studying at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Upon graduating, he went to New Zealand seeking experience with different climates, grape varieties and modern styles of winemaking. Upon returning home, he spent one year with Domaine des Croix before returning to Domaine Francois Mikulski. Thomas has been making wines under the Thomas Boccon label since 2018 and with his low-intervention vinification and respect for terroir he is quickly gaining a reputation as one of Burgundy's most promising new winemakers.
Thomas’ importer Bertrand Leulliette explains that, “Boccon prioritizes sourcing high-quality Chardonnay grapes for his wines. In his role as a négociant, he works closely with vineyard owners across the Côte de Beaune and Meursault to select grapes that best reflect the terroir of each specific plot. His focus is on minimal intervention in the vineyard, allowing the natural characteristics of the region’s limestone-rich soils to shine through. In the winery, Boccon follows a philosophy of low-intervention winemaking. He emphasizes a balance between tradition and precision. This involves allowing native yeasts to drive fermentation, which enhances the complexity and depth of the wine. The fermentation occurs in oak barrels, with a portion of new oak, which adds texture and subtle vanilla notes to the wine, without overpowering the Chardonnay's natural flavors.”
Today we are thrilled to offer a range of all of Thomas Boccon’s cuvees from 2020-2022. We were able to bring in a fairly large amount considering only about 200 bottles a vintage make it to the United States! We are proud to be the exclusive New York retailer of his wines, and to have quantities that will allow many to taste the work of this new, up-and-coming winemaker!
