Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours and Château La Grolet: Back in Stock!
Rachel Hubert
Chambers Street customers need no introduction to these two over-achieving Bordeaux estates owned by the Hubert family, certified organic and Biodynamic since the 1990s. Jean-Luc is enjoying being a grandfather now, and Rachel, who was just beginning her career at the family estate in the 2000s, is now fully in charge and running the show! Located in Bourg and Blaye on the right bank of the Gironde (roughly opposite Margaux), and situated on both gravel and clay/limestone soils, the great farming and winemaking at these domains produces some of the most authentic and affordable wines of Bordeaux.
Today we're featuring the delicious Peybonhomme-les-Tours Bordeaux Blanc The 2022 "Blanc Bonhomme." This superb white Bordeaux shows elegant pear, lemon, herbal and dried flower aromas, with pear, citrus and chalky mineral flavors on the palate. The wine has beautiful ripeness in the 2022 vintage, but with good freshness, and it really shows the terroir with crisp acidity, lovely white fruit, a hint of pineapple and oak and stony flavors in the finish.

Eric Asimov of the NY Times is a big fan, here's his review of the 2021: 'I've written about this wine several times because it’s so good and such a good value. It’s 45 percent sémillon, 45 percent sauvignon blanc and 10 percent colombard, and it’s rich, textured and stony, the kind of wine you want to keep drinking. The Hubert Family, which owns Peybonhomme-les-Tours and several other labels, has perfected the formula of farming biodynamically and making wines that always seem better than their prices indicate."

In addition to the 2021 Peybonhomme-les-Tours, the 2021 Peybonhomme "Quintessence" and the 2021 La Grolet "Origines," we're especially happy to have the 2019 Château La Grolet "Tete de Cuvée" back on the shelf - this cuvée from the estates oldest vines will cellar beautifully for ten to fifteen years and is delicious in its youth as well.
More Beaujolais, Please - Thevenet, Descombes, Desvignes, Terres Dorées and Sandrine Henriot...

The Beaujolais section is expanding just in time for grilled chicken, pork, burgers and lamb this summer, leading off with the always beautiful Morgon Vieilles Vignes from Jean-Paul and Charly Thevenet. The latest additions are the light and refreshing wines of Sandrine Henriot who took over the Biodynamic vines of Roland Pignard in Morgon and Regnié.
Superb Bandols from La Bastide Blanche!

Michel and Louis Bonzo acquired this estate in 1970 which is situated in St. Anne de Castellet, an area in Bandol with a terroir rich in limestone. This terroir, along with the estate’s desire for maintaining low yields each vintage (never more than 34 or 35 hl/ha), gives structure, balance, and elegance to these wines. Certified organic farming with Biodynamic methods as well - these are some of the finest wines and best values in Bandol. The 2016 Cuvée Fontanéou is a superb wine that is drinking beautifully now, especially with a steak off the grill. Quite similar to the 2022, the wonderful 2023 Bandol Rosé is a young wine, so give it some time open if drinking now, or keep for a few years.
Vibrant Organic Sancerre from Domaine Dauny!

Domaine Dauny in Crézancy has been organic since 1964 - Nicole and Christian are the twelfth generation at the estate!  The Dauny Clos du Roy is from 40 - 50-year-old vines in this famous limestone vineyard. The 2023 has a pale, lemon yellow robe. On the nose it shows ripe stone fruit and golden apple aromas with notes of greengage and Meyer lemon zest. The mid-weight palate is supple and balanced framed by a salty sense of minerality, with fresh, mouthwatering acidity on a medium long, succulent, slightly herbaceous finish. This was a fine pairing with pan roasted chicken breast stuffed with herbed goat cheese and chard. Though for those who are looking for a fresh summer aperitif, not to worry--the 2023 holds plenty of charm at a reasonable price...
Unique and Refreshing Summer Whites from Eric Texier

Better known for his age-worthy reds made with ancient versions of Syrah, our friend Eric Texier also makes unique and refreshing whites that will freshen and stimulate your summer! The beautiful 2022 "Adele" is from St-Julien en St-Alban in the Ardèche, primarily Clairette and 100% delicious. The 2022 Vignenvie "Calico" comes from a one hectare parcel in Charnay co-planted with Muscat d’Alexandrie, Muscat Petit Grain, Muscat Ottonnel, Chasselas Blanc, Chasselas Gris and Pinot Gris. It's a jovial and thirst-quenching wine with life-affirming energy!
