Huge Drop of 2024 Burgundies
9/28/26 -
When it rains, it pours and I do not just mean the nor'easter that hit New York this past weekend. The temps have dropped and we have switched out glasses of rosé for soulful, heart warming White and Red Burgundies, which is great because right now it is "pouring" Burgundy here at Chambers Street Wines. Some of the true greats are about to land at the shop and I would be remiss to not share as many of them as possible with you today. A bulk of the email today comes from one of my favorite young winemakers in Chassagne-Montrachet, Simon Colin, but includes wines from Jacques Carillon, Sylvain Cathiard, Nicole Lamarche, Marquis d'Angerville, and 2023s from Anne Gros.
If you are not yet familiar with Simon Colin (photoed above), now is the perfect time to get acquainted! Simon began making his own wines in 2017 by sourcing grapes from Chassagne, Puligny, and Rully. Things really took off with the 2021 vintage, when he inherited 2/3 of his father Phillippe Colin’s holdings. Prior to making his own wines, Simon trained under his uncle Bruno (Colin), was the assistant winemaker at Domaine Etienne Sauzet, and assisted his father in making the 2015 vintage at Domaine Phillipe Colin. Now making his own wines with ownership of his own vines, Simon farms organically with some biodynamic practices implemented along the way. He describes his style as “modern” as he works to make wines with great acidity and less wood influence. Although he is young, Simon has already proved what an incredible winemaker he is. My experience so far with these wines has been nothing short of incredible. With each new release, more and more people are seeing how special the wines from Simon are and with 2024 they are hitting a whole new level. His white wines are beautifully textural and contain wonderful depth and minerality while his reds are so bright, and full of energy.
