It is quite challenging to describe the magical feeling of descending into Vincent Laval's cellar. Vincent himself is larger than life, jovial, passionate, and incredibly thoughtful in everything he does. Before my most recent trip to Champagne I had only ever met him in passing at tastings and other events in New York, but meeting up with him in Cumieres, he instantly made our entire group feel like we were close friends returning after a long time away.

After a walk through the vineyards we headed to the first of two cellars where all the vin clairs were aging in barrel. The drinkability of these 'unfinished' wines was astounding! I could clearly see how stunning they will be after their second fermentation. What came next was where things really became a wonderland. We stepped down into a labyrinth of bottles. The tasting started out calm as we tried a few freshly disgorged bottles of the same wines we have on offer today, but I will admit that my notes got shorter and shorter as countless bottles were opened. Every so often Vincent would disappear through one hallway only to reappear from the other side of the room with another insane bottle of Champagne.

But, as I discussed with some colleagues recently, sometimes just writing "wow" next to a wine portrays more than an elaborate descriptive note ever does. Since we can't all be in Vincent's cellar together, take today's offer as a chance to restock on all your favorite cuvées from Laval including the favorites, plus some large format, a little Longues Violes, and the very rare Coteaux Champenois Rouge.
