Jonathan Nossiter's New Film "Natural Resistance" at Racines NY, Wednesday Sept. 10th!

9/4/14 -

Our friend Jonathan Nossiter, producer/director of "Mondvino," will be in New York September 10th and 11th for preview screenings of his new film "Natural Resistance." Mixing documentary and fiction, the film portrays the lives of Italian natural winemakers who rebel against the “New World Economic Order,” offering a model of charmed and joyous resistance. The film features Stefano Bellotti (Casina degli Ulivi), Elena Pantaleoni (La Stoppa), Stefano Borsa & Giovanna Tiezzi (Pacina) and Corrado Dottori (La Distesa), with Gian Luca Farinelli of the Cineteca di Bologna and includes clips from the films of Chaplin, Pasolini, Rossellini, Bresson, and others, evoking the theme of resistance, interspersed throughout.

On Wednesday September 10th Racines NY at 94 Chambers Street will offer a fixed-price dinner with screenings and discussion with Mr. Nossiter. Doors will open at 6PM with a complimentary glass of Pet Nat and bar snacks, followed by a screening of "Natural Resistance" at 7PM. After the film, guests will receive a glass of 2009 Pacina Toscana followed by a brief Q and A with Mr. Nossiter and a three course dinner by Chef Frederic Duca. A selection af natural wines by estates featured in the film will be available for purchase and of course the superb wine list of Racines will be available as well. Tickets for the evening are available at $150, including tax and service, by calling Racines NY at 212-227-3400.

Special Added Late Show! At approximately 11:30 Jonathan will show his  just completed short film "Resitance Alsacienne" (In French - no subtitles) depicting Marc Tempé and Pierre Frick and their trial for destroying genetically modified vines. No ticket required, just a bit of French, come on down! Chambers Street Wines and Racines NY are very proud to welcome Jonathan and his new films to New York - this will be a vibrant evening of wine and cinema! (We urge you to try a selection of wines from estates featured in the film, offered below. And special thanks to Louis/Dressner Selections and Indie Wineries for importing these beautiful wines!)

"In abandoning the rules of the documentary genre, Jonathan Nossiter shows us much more than "information" on natural wines or cinema history. He allows us to see, reflected in his own madly unfettered images, the liberating force of culture, the sheer delight of knowledge, poetic inebriation, ethical joy, all that is lost in the uniform products of the cultural industries. Common struggle of independant filmakers and "vignerons naturels," this joyous dissidence has a promising future..."  (From the Olivier Beuvelet review of "Natural Resistance" in Mediapart)
