Jérôme Fornerot's 2024 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly
4/30/26 -

I will give credit where credit is due, producers such as Hubert Lamy, Joseph Colin, and many more have brought acclaim to the white wines of Saint-Aubin. But today it seems like what was once looked at as a place to find incredible value White Burgundy is just as expensive as its neighbors in Puligny, Chassagne, and Meursault. Nowadays you can often see village Saint-Aubin for $100+ and Premier Crus for well over $150, so today I bring to you a wine that will make you second guess what you know about the pricing of Saint-Aubin: Jérôme Fornerot's 2024 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly on sale today, and through the weekend for just $80.
The Fornerot family has been in Saint-Aubin since 1618 yet for many years Jérôme sold most of his fruit to negociants. He spent time at the family domaine after studying viticulture and oenotherapy during High School in Beaune. In 2004, Jérôme created his own estate with 4.5 hectares across Maranges and Santenay. However, it wasn’t until 2018 when he inherited 9 hectares of family plots that his attention was moved towards Saint-Aubin. Today, Jérôme farms 16.5 hectares across the three villages and year after year is bottling more under his own label.

His plot of En Remilly is a jewel! Located at the southern end of Saint-Aubin on the border of the Grand Cru Chevalier Montrachet. The south-facing plot was planted in 1988 at about 300 meters of elevation. The grapes are handpicked and lightly crushed before being pressed in a pneumatic press. The juice is settled and placed into French oak barrels for fermentation with indigenous yeast, before being aged for 15 months in 15% new oak and then put in a vat for 3 months before bottling.
The resulting wine has great power with excellent balance. Beautiful purity of fruit with notes of golden apple with lemon and some white florals. The wine has strong minerality with great texture and a long, salty finish. At the bottom of my notes I just wrote, "simply delicious." Just in case I could somehow forget!
Having just been in Burgundy last week, the consensus among winemakers is clear: 2024
was a challenging vintage but one that resulted in stellar wines! When writing about the vintage, Jasper Morris said, "I did not know what to expect at the outset, and was at first pleasantly surprised and then genuinely enthusiastic. I had quite liked the whites in 2021 but there is much more character to the 2024s." Having slowly begun tasting these wines myself I tend to agree there, everything I have had so far show amazing balance and purity with great structure. The caveat to this excellent vintage is that there is not much wine to go around, yields are down across the Cote d'Or so these wines will not last nearly as long as we would like them to. We are stocking up on this wine so you can too, but you'll want to get them now.
