Italian New Arrivals & Returning Favorites

9/17/26 -

Lately we have been sipping excellent Italian wines which are perfect for transitioning into Fall. Liguria is heavily weighted in today's selection featuring (from west to east) Maccario Dringenberg, Bruna, Claudio Vio, and Maneterra. Continue reading for more wines from Friuli, Abruzzo, Valle d'Aosta, Umbria & Tuscany. Everything here will discount 10% on 6+ bottles through the weekend!

Maccario Dringenberg 2024 Rossese di Dolceacqua
From the far west of Liguria very close to France comes this coastal Rossese. A blend of various plots around the estate, the grapes that go into this wine are all hand harvested and only indigenous yeast are employed. The nose has notes of pomegranate and cranberry with just a hint of underbrush adding a savory contrast to a light bodied frame. The finish is long and intense with a tenacity that's complemented by its bright acidity.

Maccario Dringenberg 2024 Rossese di Dolceacqua Pini
This fantastic cru bottling of Rossese is from a vineyard rich with mudstones. The vines here are steep, terraced, and extremely old- pre-dating phylloxera! All stainless steel aging. Raw, yet polished with fragrant blue fruit, black olive, tar, woodsy herbs, and licorice-y red fruit framed with light tannins.

Bruna
These herb scented, soulful Ligurian whites have been written about many times at Chambers Street so I will simply link a previous write-up here. We just received our final restock of the current vintages and unfortunately Francesca and Roberto reported difficulties and lower yields in 2025, so stock up now!

Claudio Vio
Claudio Vio and Maria Grazia, husband and wife team, farm a patchwork of rugged vineyards adding up to only 2 hectares total. They are located to the west of Genoa in the crescent shaped region of Liguria benefitting from both mountain and maritime breezes. Soils are composed of gravel and a bit of clay and intervention is very minimal- hand harvesting and native fermentations.  These wines barely trickle into New York, so we are excited to be able to offer out some Vermentino and Pigato today from the excellent 2025 growing season. While local growers believe in the distinct differences between these two grapes, the 2025's are a textbook examples of Pigato's silky, waxy texture, and Vermentino's crisp lemon and sea salt notes

Vini Rabasco 2024 La Salita Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Iole Rabasco, owner & winemaker of Vini Rabasco is one of the most talented growers in Pianella, Abruzzo, where she farms 11 hectares of grapevines and olive trees. These 50 year old vines have never seen any chemicals and have been tended with biodynamic practices for the last 20 years with the sentiment of leaving the land better than you find it. The secret sauce to this spritzy and energetic Trebbiano is 10% Malvasia planted in the vineyard. This brings top notes of pear and chamomile to Trebbiano's base notes of almond and apple. I can't think of a better wine to transition into Fall!

Amorotti 2023 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Amorotti's first official vintage was 2016, but they have been a winemaking family for over a century. While they still sell grapes, they save the best selections for their own label. The vines are certified organic and the wine is spontaneously fermented. Valentini is their neighbor, and helped with logistics of getting started and now they are represented by one of my favorite importers, Jan D'Amore. This Trebbiano is fermented and aged in large untoasted Slavonian oak barrels for 1 year. Every vintage I've had of this wine shows their signature toasty reduction and the 2023 is no exception. Hay, dried herbs, sesame seeds, and yellow plums abound with lovely tension, acidity, and texture from lees aging.

Paraschos 2021 Collio Pinot Grigio Not Riserva
For many years, Evangelos Paraschos ran a restaurant in Friuli and poured wines from local legends like Gravner and Radikon. Feeling so inspired by these selections and the potential of Friuli, he started his own winery. From the Slatnik vineyard comes this gorgeous rhubarb, sour cherry, cardamon and cinnamon scented Pinot Grigio. Half of the grapes are direct press and half are macerated bringing a stunning burnt orange color. The food pairing ideas are endless...

Grosjean 2025 Vallee d'Aoste Premetta
The Grosjeans are one of the only families estate bottling a Premetta in Valle d'Aosta. They are a benchmark grower in these Italian alps making regionally specific wines with no chemicals in the vines and fermented with native yeasts. This thinned skinned ancient varietal brings notes of tangy red fruits & violets with electric alpine acidity.

Chiorri 2024 Grante Rosso Umbria Sagrantino
Chiorri is represented now by Monica, the fifth generation running this Perugia based estate. While Sagrantino can be one of the most intense red wines in all of Italy, this quickly macerated example shows the other side of the Sagrantino spectrum. Dried orange, dried flowers, incense, earth, potpourri, and dark fruit all in a light bodied frame. This one of the most enjoyable and easygoing styles of Sagrantino out there and best of all, its imported by one of our favorite boutique Italian importers, Karen Ruocco of Five Flights!

Fornacina 2024 Rosso di Montalcino
With so much Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino in the market, it can take a lot of trial and error to find one you really connect with. Fornacina's ethos is one that feels right at home on the CSW shelves- family owned & operated, small production, organic farming, native fermentations, gentle use of oak, and very fair pricing. This Rosso has great purity of fruit with incredible length and 1 year of oak aging. This will be our go-to Rosso di Montalcino all fall and winter. Stay tuned for a future Brunello offer!
