Insanely Good Max Kilburg 2024s!
12/18/25 -
Even as the 20th generation winemaker of his family's historic estate, Max Kilburg has quickly begun to make a name for himself. With his first vintage (in 2019) leading Mosel Fine Wines to call his Kabinetts, "firm, precise, racy, and hugely profound," it's clear something special is happening here! Since starting in 2019, Max has expanded a little bit, acquiring an older-vine parcel in Ohligsberg Grand Cru but in truth he is barely farming two hectares of his own vines. But as we know, sometimes the smallest are the mightiest. Max has since taken Riesling drinkers by storm!

The current release comes from the 2024 vintage; a vintage very small in size but one where quality shines, especially with Kabinett styles. Stephen of Vom Boden said, "As I've tasted more and more of the vintage, I'm getting more and more tired of trying to be restrained or overly judicious. The vintage is just stunning - easily a modern day classic vintage, one of the best of the last two decades. For me personally, it is up there with 2002, 2004, 2008, 2016, 2017 and 2021."
I was lucky enough to attend a tasting of a large range of 2024s just a few weeks ago and the Kilburg wines were a huge standout! Across my tasting notes are the words, "wow! fun, ripping, concentrated, great!" you get the gist right? Each wine showed how incredible of a touch Max has with his winemaking and how this young talent will continue to be one to watch.
Between his small amount of hectares under vine and the loss with the 2024 vintage, there are limited quantities available for all of these wines. We have taken as much as we possibly could get (including some insanely rare magnums) but there is still only so much wine. Grab these while they are still around, you wont regret opening one (or two) at your holiday table.
