Domaine Huet 2018-2024, Plus Pinon & Carême!

9/20/25 -

Domaine Huet 2018 - 2024
2024 in the Loire Valley is a vintage of tiny yields, with a trifecta of "filage" and "couloure" limiting the fruit set in the spring and an endless battle with mildew all year long. Vouvray was particularly hard hit with Julien Pinon reporting good luck at losing only 40% of his crop, while Domaine Huet lost 85 to 90%. Domaine Huet produced tiny quantities of the three Sec cuvées, no demi-sec or moelleux wines were made. The resulting 2024 Huet dry wines show outstanding mineral character, subtle complex fruit and firm acidity, but only 24 bottles of each wine are available.

Deep dive into Le Mont at Chambers Restaurant last spring...

The Huet estate and their NY importer have released tiny quantities of sec, demi-sec and moelleux wines from previous vintages (2018 - 2023) which we are happy to offer today as well. "Biodynamic agriculture, practiced for more than thirty years, contributes to revealing the very essence of the terroirs in each of our cuvées. Thus, the suppleness of the brown clays of the Haut-Lieu, the chiselled flints of the Mont and the roundness of the limestones of the Clos du Bourg give Chenin an incomparable elegance."

Domaine Pinon
We met the Pinon family in 1981, and have happily followed the progress of three generations at this wonderful domain, though saddened by the sudden passing of François a few years ago. Over 33 years, he and his wife Odile transformed this estate into one of the finest in the Loire. He was greatly respected by vignerons, wine professionals and wine-lovers around the world. François' son Julien is capably continuing the great work of his father and grandfather and forging his own path. Three of our recent favorites from Julien, the 2019 "Trois Argiles," the 2022 "Buvez du Bon Pinon" and the superb 2020 "Brut Non-Dosé" are on offer today.

Domaine Vincent Carême
Vincent Carême grew up among the vines of Vouvray, but spent many years working in other regions and in South Africa before returning to the family 5 hectares in 1999.  The farming was converted to organic in 2002 and Vincent added important new vineyards, bringing the total to the current 17 hectares. Vincent's 2023 Vouvray Sec is from parcels with a high content of flint in the clay soils bringing a beautiful mineral complexity and firm acidity to the lovely ripe fruit of the 2023 vintage. And we're happy to offer the brilliant 2022 "Le Clos," certainly one of the finest wines of Vouvray!  "Vincent's wines are no longer just great examples of Chenin Blanc, but should be considered as great wines against any competition, from Burgundy, Bordeaux or beyond." says our friend Chris Kissack in The Wine Doctor.
