Domaine Cheveau Pouilly-Fuisse Aux Bouthières - A Fantastic 1er Cru White Burgundy!

10/13/25 -

Today I have the opportunity to showcase some fantastic White Burgundy from an area that hasn't always gotten its due. There have been grapes growing in Pouilly-Fuissé since the Cistercian monks, but it wasn't until after phylloxera destroyed the vineyards of France that they moved towards growing Chardonnay instead of Gamay. However, the area was not protected under AOC laws until 1929, and it wasn't until 90 years later that Pouilly-Fuissé finally received its first upgrade. In 2020 came the addition of  22 premier cru vineyards. This is a monumental moment for the village that has been making some very serious White Burgundies but have never been able to properly highlight their best work. What I find to be even more exciting about this new classification is that it showcases a modern day representation of what sites are agreed upon to be the best, and not just what was deemed the best over a hundred years ago. No shade to the current premier and grand crus of Burgundy, but there is something to be said for looking towards the future of the region too.

One of those sites that was recently promoted to 1er Cru is Aux Bouthieres, which is located very close to the premier cru "Pouilly" It has richer soils with a high clay content making wines of power, weight, and minerality. Domaine Cheveau makes this incredible wine and we are excited to offer it to you today (and tomorrow) with discounts on 3 or 6+ bottle purchases! This very well could be one of the best values of Premier Cru White Burgundy around! With this special discount when you buy 6 or more bottles the price per bottle drops to $59.50!

Domaine Cheveau was established in 1950 by André Cheveau in the hamlet of Solutré-Pouilly. 75 years and two generations later the Domaine is now run by André's grandsons Nicolas and Julien. Of their 14 hectares of vines, a majority lie in and around Solutré-Pouilly and are planted to Chardonnay. In more recent years they have moved to organic farming and will be certified as of the 2024 vintage. Cheveau's Bouthieres vines are an average of 30 years old. Everything is hand harvested here before being fermented with native yeast. After, the wine is aged for 12 months in used 600-liter barrels on its fine lees with an additional 12 months in stainless steel. The nose opens with bright lemon followed by a toasty, reduction. It is textural and opulent yet carries incredible acid that is perfectly in balance. There's a long smooth finish that will keep you coming back for more. Drink now or age for years to come!
