Chassagne Excellence from Jean-Marc Pillot

6/22/26 -

It has been such a treat for me to have the chance to showcase the fantastic wines of Jean-Marc Pillot here at Chambers Street Wines. I have worked to try and keep some of these incredible wines on the shelves as often as I can, but due to a mix of limited quantities, and sheer popularity, this has become more and more challenging. Back in April we proudly welcomed Jean-Marc's son Antonin (photo above on right) to the shop for an in-store tasting, and many of you got to experience firsthand how these wines are truly something special.

Over the years Jean-Marc Pillot has made quite a name for himself with an impressive range of holdings from Chassagne, Puligny, Santenay, and beyond! For the past few years, his son Antonin has taken the reins and represents the 5th generation of vignerons in the family. With this passing of the torch came just a few changes, most importantly the conversion to organic viticulture in 2021, with certification coming with the 2024 vintage. Across the whole domaine, most of the vines are old, averaging over 50 years. In the cellar Antonin is implementing an extended aging period, with wines spending 18 months in barrel on the fine lees with no racking, increased from 12 months in past vintages. The longer aging has provided additional harmony and complexity with precision all while being terroir-driven. With each year the winemaking is always thoughtful and tailored to get the best out of each vintage. Jean-Marc is still involved and assisting his son, and has clearly passed on a knack for winemaking.

I have personally always had a soft spot for the wines of Jean-Marc Pillot. Although they are often known for their white wines first, Jean-Marc and Antonin craft some exquisite Red Burgundies. It's difficult to believe that a handful of years ago I was pouring his Chassagne Rouge Premier Crus by the glass during my time in restaurants. Today the story is a bit different, as year after year they continue to improve, and as Antonin's star rises it becomes harder to get our hands on these wines. I am very excited to offer a select few wines of his today, specifically Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge alongside Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc and Rouge with a fair bit to go around. These four wines represent an incredible entry into the domaine showing just how special both white and red wines are from this village.

The 2024 Bourgogne Blanc Les Hauts des Champs is from a parcel on the southeastern end of Chassagne-Montrachet, with this wine now passing its élevage in stainless steel tank to preserve freshness. It shares the broad shoulders and dense texture of the wines of Chassagne. In comparison, 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc is sourced from seven parcels throughout the village, from vines planted between 1950-2010. Since 2021 the wine is aged in 350-liter barrels and Stockinger foudre allowing for less impact of oak. The resulting wine is a perfect melding of richness, acidity, with precision and depth. 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Les Grandes Terres is from 65 year old vines from the village of Remigny, just south of Santenay and is aged for 12 months in used barrels. This is an energetic and vibrant style of Bourgogne Rouge with lovely notes of wild berries and a silky finish. Lastly is 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Mes Vieille Vignes, sourced from just over a hectare of vines planted in 1960, this wine has incredible complexity for a village wine. Made 100% whole cluster, it has excellent structure with purity of fruit. A gentle, balance mix of earthy with red berries and cherry notes.
