Awesome Anjou Wines from Domaine Cady: Superb Quality and Value!
1/18/2025
Alexandre Cady is the fourth generation at this over-achieving estate, creating beautiful Coteaux du Layon and Anjou wines from certified organic farming on schist soils in Saint-Aubin de Luigné and Rochefort-sur-Loire. We're very happy to bring the full range of these lovely wines to the US for the first time!
Best known for their superb sweet wines from the Coteaux du Layon, the estate also produces crystalline dry Chenins, delicious reds and rosés from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grolleau, and delightful zero-sulfur Pet Nats, all of which offer amazing quality and value.

"The Cady family have, for several generations, quite rightly focused on the sweet wines for which the region is so well known. The results are rich and yet full of quartzy, crystalline purity, a very typical style for the Coteaux du Layon appellation and one that sets these wines apart from the world’s other sweet wines. These are remarkable wines, sometimes heavily botrytised, and yet always full of vigour. Despite this, the domaine does not receive the accolades that can sometimes be heaped upon more famous neighbours. This is, in my opinion, one of the most under-rated and overlooked domaines in the Coteaux du Layon appellation...they have been responsible for some of the greatest examples of Coteaux du Layon I have ever tasted." Fans of dry Chenin Blanc from Anjou will find three rather amazing values from Domain Cady, beginning with the 2023 Anjou Blanc which shows subtle fruit - light, fresh and pure at a great price. The 2022 Anjou Blanc "Cheninsolite" was vinified and aged in barrel, it offers superb richness and mineral complexity and while it's beautiful now it will open nicely over the next ten years. The 2022 Anjou Blanc "Moulin Ste. Catherine" is from schist terroir above Rochefort-sur-Loire, it was vinified and aged in large Italian cocciopesto amphoras - enjoy over the next ten to twenty years.
There are two delightful reds in today's offer, both made with Cabernet Franc: the 2022 Anjou Rouge which shows lovely red fruit aromas and is supple and forward for current drinking, and the more serious 2022 Anjou-Villages, from older vines, a more structured and denser Cab Franc that will benefit from decanting or a few years in the cellar.
OK, we know it's not Rosé season, but the two Cady rosés are irresistable - the very light, dry and subtle 2023 Rosé de Loire from 100% Grolleau, and the 2023 Rosé D'Anjou, made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon - yes, it's a demi-sec, lightly sweet, really delicious and capable of long-term aging for all you fans of ten year-old Cabernet D'Anjou!
Last but not least, we have a vibrant Petillant Naturel, made with zero added sulfur: the Pet Nat Bio Chenin, showing "a fresh and elegant nose filled with bright fruits, dusted with notes of powdered chalk, orange peel and freesia. There is a similarly perfumed palate, developing a touch of rose petal and redcurrant here, with bright acidity and a fresh mousse"
