Abruzzo, Italy: Old and New Favorites

9/8/25 -

Today is Abruzzo day at Chambers: featuring three exciting producers. If you're hunting for an everyday bottle for dinner, or an age-worthy bottle for a special occasion- there is something for everyone. These three producers, Emidio Pepe, Amorotti, and Tiberio all represent this beautiful land, with the rugged Apennines to the West, the Adriatic Sea to the East and rolling hills in between.

Emidio Pepe

Emidio Pepe is a name that requires no introduction. This estate is renowned for their commitment to a singular vision and consistency vintage to vintage for over sixty years. Now, the fourth and fifth generation of the Pepe family have taken over the farming and winemaking. I am so excited to offer the current releases, as well as a handful of bottles from 2001 and 2013. All of the wines on today’s offer are direct from the estate and wines older than 20 years are decanted. The 2001 Montepulciano was decanted in February 2025. In the vineyards there are biodynamic practices in place, and in the cellar there is no use of oak; only glass lined cement for fermentation and aging. Emidio Pepe has brought attention and respect to his region and I am so pleased to offer these at Chambers.

Amorotti

Amorotti’s first vintage was 2016, but was a hundred years in the making. Winemaker Gaetano Carboni comes from a long line of farmers, first bottling olive oil for export in the early 1900’s and making wine only for the family’s consumption, as is typical in Italy. In the late 1990’s he started replanting and the wines we get to drink today were born from this long-term investment. Famed Abruzzo estate, Valentini, is right across the street from Amorotti and helped get this project off the ground. Amorotti’s wines all spend time in large untoasted Salvonian oak and showcase a well integrated toasty reduction, which for me, has become signature to their style.

Tiberio

Tiberio is the third producer on today’s offer, but not because of any lack of quality in comparison to Pepe and Amorotti. Christiana and Antonio Tiberio (sister/brother duo) are respected names in Abruzzo. Christiana has trained with Selosse, Egon Muller, and Nicolas Joly and believes “that you can only truly make a wine with the greatest expression of the place if you have lived there and really understand the climate and sense of the place” (The Sorting Table). This mix of global and local sensibility, her degree in Chemistry, and teaching of college level classes makes her one of the sharpest minds in the region. The wines are bright, linear and mineral driven . Christiana does not use any oak for her Pecorino, Trebbiano, or Cerasuolo. These surely punch above their price point and I plan to drink them throughout the Fall!
