A Recaredo offer for the Record books!

11/13/25 -

Amidst many recent and upcoming newsletters highlighting a plethora of wines and winemakers, today’s email focuses on a single cuvee, and for good reason. Recaredo’s Terrers Gran Reserva is not just a killer bottle of bubbles, it’s one that really speaks to so much of what inspires us to keep learning and discovering new wines. While many of our readers may have by now encountered these, I’m not so sure anyone has since found a better value. Famed for being one of the greatest deals in the wine-biz, it’s about to get even greater; today through Sunday, we're discounting each bottle by $8 for all orders of 6 or more bottles of the 2019 Terrers Gran Reserva.  Please note, this offer ended on 11/17/25, but the wine will have a special price of $39.99 ($5 less than normal price) through the end of the year!

The history of the estate can be traced back to 1924, when Josep Mata Capellades (who apparently played for then second division soccer team, Espanyol) decided to craft a cellar underneath his home in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia, just outside of Barcelona. The professional soccer would soon fade into the background as another talent of his, disgorgement, became a hot commodity in the Penedes. Remember, Cava as we know it was created not long before then, in the 1870’s, by none other than our dear friend Pepe Raventos’s great-great grandfather, Josep; by the time Mata came into the fold, the Penedes was bursting with demand for precisely these kinds of skills. Over the course of the following decades and generations, a house-style of sorts would be developed at Recaredo: all of the wines are brut-nature, they all see long-ageing in oak barrels, and each cepage is comprised exclusively of grapes native to Catalunya.

In more recent years, the estate has taken genuinely groundbreaking steps that have not only elevated the wines but also reshaped the region’s identity. Recaredo was the very first Penedes producer to receive biodynamic certification, and is a founding member of Corpinnat — a new, EU-recognized private appellation that seeks to reclaim Cava from the corporate clutches of Freixenet and Codorníu. Corpinnat’s standards far exceed those of the Cava D.O.: all fruit must be hand-harvested, organically grown, vinified on-site, composed primarily of native grapes, and aged at least 18 months on the lees. It’s a system much closer to Champagne’s, long celebrated for its quality controls. Founded only in 2018, Corpinnat is still young, but it’s hard not to admire how it has already reframed the conversation around Catalan sparkling wine by putting human-scale, organic farming front and center.

What I love most about Recaredo is what you could call “transparency.” Sure, they make wines in a method that is almost entirely synonymous with Champagne, in a world where everyone knows Champagne and can’t be convinced that anything but Champagne should be worth their time; but why should they bother emulating the likes of Roederer, Selosse, Krug, etc. when none of them can capture the glorious Mediterranean terroir with which they are bestowed? Recaredo is of course known as a ridiculous value compared to its French peers, but in this case, something about the word ‘value’ seems to compare the two in a way that doesn’t effectively distinguish what there is to love about the terroir of the Penedes. The wines don’t see dosage for good reason, and that is that the grapes ripen more easily than what you’ll find in the vineyards of the north of France. Lush fruit with salinity and more generous structure separate the Catalans from their northerly contemporaries, and I’m so glad it does. In the case of the Terrers Gran Reserva, there is beautiful orchard fruit with a fine, mineral mouthfeel, interwoven with generous acidity and an elegant finish that screams textbook great wine. This is a must-try for anyone with a remote interest in sparkling wine, and an absolute stunner for any occasion. Don’t miss this absurd deal!
