75th Annual Chambers Street Wines Thanksgiving Email Blast!

11/12/25 -

Ok, we're sure you are used to our jesting when it comes to the Thanksgiving email... this is in truth only our 24th year providing our customers with heartfelt and feast-inspired wine suggestions - still a feat in its own right!

It all started as a humble attempt to bring attention to less recognized wine regions and stress the importance of acidity and balance over point-scores and over-extraction when looking for a Thanksgiving pairing. Now, the Chambers Street Wines Thanksgiving email has become a highly anticipated "event" for our readers, so without further ado, let's get on with it!

-------------------------

Thanksgiving — the wine lover's favorite holiday, when sharing our favorite bird-friendly wines with family, friends and neighbors heightens our enjoyment of this most convivial day!

And what do we look for in a Thanksgiving wine? A full-bodied white that will not only complement turkey, but stand up to the cranberry sauce, stuffing and onions; Rosés (yes, rosés are a great choice on Thanksgiving) that have a bit more fruit and terroir expression than those we gulp in the Summer; Reds that are not too heavy - ripe and supple with pretty fruit that won't overwhelm the mild flavors of turkey, turnips and mashed potatoes. And of course a sparkling wine or Champagne to begin or end our feast, and dessert wines that will shine with pumpkin, apple and mince pies, walnuts and cheeses.
This year we start our selections with our favorite aperitivos, then onto pear ciders and sparkling wines. Next, whites, from food friendly Loire whites to dry and off dry Rieslings, Chardonnay and many other lesser known varietals. Our fondness for rosés with harvest and Yuletide feasts is well documented, so we'd be remiss to not offer some thirst quenching, flavorful rosés. We follow with reds, classics like Beaujolais, some like-minded, balanced reds from all around the globe, and a few full-bodied options. The list is rounded out with some dessert wines and after dinner delicacies.

Our Thanksgiving picks are designed to please everyone at the table, from novice to Master of Wine, and to fit every budget as well. Have fun perusing our list and please call or email with any questions or for further recommendations.

A few highlighted Staff Picks for Thanksgiving!

A. Bergere NV Rose Champagne: A blend of of 90% Chardonnay with 10% Coteaux Champenois Pinot Noir. This is quintessential rose Champagne, the perfect mixture of red fruit, florals, and zippy energy. Just a delicious bottle of bubbles that will pair beautifully with the flavors of Thanksgiving! -Hanna Krilov

When it comes to Thanksgiving wine pairings (the kind of thing I weirdly think about at least once a month), I’m a believer in the wine acting as its own sort of cranberry sauce. This year, I’ll be bringing a bottle of Viuva Gomes’s 2020 Pirata Tinto to do just that. Made in a palhete style (blending white and red grapes), I’m betting this juicy wine’s depth of fruit is going to knock all of the Beaujolais Nouveau out of the water. -Nicolas Douglas

Kelley Fox 2023 Mirabai Pinot Noir: Always one of my favorites from Oregon, the 2023 Mirabai Pinot Noir from Kelley Fox is as good as ever. Punchy, bright fruit along with a deep mineral cut make it very food friendly but not aggressive, and easy to enjoy on its own. Perfect for drinking alongside classic Thanksgiving fare such as turkey (with cranberry sauce of course), stuffing and potatoes. -Jeff DiLorenzo

Pax 2024 Chenin Blanc Helios: This is a great wine and a must try for Chenin lovers who might be skeptical of anything coming from outside of the Loire Valley. It has the racy acidity and mineral depth you'll find from Anjou Chenin, with the texture and elegance of wines from Vouvray, and at a price point that makes it easy to share with friends and family. Perfect alongside turkey, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and can hold up to stuffings and heartier meats nicely. -Jeff DiLorenzo

For Thanksgiving, I want a silky red that's not too heavy and will pair across the various spices, textures, and sauces of a good Thanksgiving meal. My pick is Federico Curtaz 'Il Purgatorio' Etna Rosso 2020. One year of neutral barrel aging and four years of bottle aging reveals beautiful high tones aromatics rooted by spice, licorice and menthol in the finish. Federico Curtaz was an agronomist for Angelo Gaja for 15 years, then consulted for many winemakers throughout Italy and is now focusing on his namesake project in Sicily. Purgatorio is a contrada on Etna's Southern Slope. -Marisa Licandro

And some picks from our sifu, David Lillie:

Beaujolais! Of couse the velvety texture and lovely berry fruits of Beaujolais are a great choice for Thanksgiving and just in time for the holiday, we've received a re-release of the superb 2018 and 2019 Daniel Bouland Morgon "Delys" Vieilles Vignes 1926! Still youthful at 6 and 7 years of age, this is one of the finest of all Morgons and will be a delight with your turkey and trimmings. Another great Morgon is the Cuvée Vieilles Vignes from Georges Descombes, a perrenial favorite at Chambers Street - it's a beautifully lush and vibrant wine in 2022, another perfect pairing with your Thanksgiving meal...

Chenin! Yes, White Burgundy can be a great option for Thanksgiving but a good Loire Valley Chenin might be even better! The flavors of dry Chenin pair beautifully with turkey (and all the veggies of course) and two of our favorites from Julien Pinon in Vouvray and Domaine Jousset in Montlouis are on the list today, both from the lovely 2022 vintage. And the 2020 Pinon Vouvray Brut is one of the very finest and most distinctive sparkling Chenins, to serve before or during the meal, and with your favorite pies and desserts....

Rosé!  Years of independent testing (at my house) have conclusively shown that if a good rosé is put on the table at Thanksgiving, it will be the first wine to disappear. Today we offer three superb French rosés, all from Biodynamic farming -  real wines of terroir that will pair beautifully  with  your Thanksgiving feast!
