2021 and 2022 Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

10/19/26 -

I recently had the chance to revisit some bottles from Harmand-Geoffroy and wow were they delicious! A side by side tasting of the Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from 2021 and 2022 very quickly became the highlight and I am really thrilled to share them with you today. These wines are quintessential Gevrey showing an amazing range of fruit, spice, and floral notes. While drinking well now, I would stock up and store some away in your cellar because these will just keep getting better.

Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy is run by Gerard Harmand and his son Philiipe. The family has 9 hectares of vines exclusively within the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, something that you don't see all that often nowadays. While their village Gevrey is a blend of parcels around the whole village, the Vieilles Vignes comes from the lieu-dits of En Champs, Champerrier, and Combes du Dessus all fairly close to one another, below the Premier Cru of Champeaux, and all planted 55-85 years ago. They farm without any herbicides or chemical fertilizers and harvest manually. Vinification is just as traditional, with 100% destemming and native yeast fermentation. The wines are aged for about 16 months on the fine lees in small oak barrels before bottling without filtration.

Harmand-Geoffroy 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

A really stunning wine with notes of plum and black cherry. It has a beautiful floral note with underlying spice. Full of energy with great acidity and concentrated flavors, this wine is drinking fantastic right now and will continue to age well for 8+ years.

Harmand-Geoffroy 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

The 2022 vintage is a bit darker and more brooding with a spicy, meaty quality to it before opening up to notes of ripe black cherry, cranberry, and black pepper. Even from a riper vintage, the wine still carries great acidity to help it age for years to come. While slightly more closed off now, this will open up with a decant and drink well for 8+ years to come.
