The 2022 Tira o Véu White comes from an 85 year old vineyard in the Serra de São Mamede at 700 meters above sea level, planted to a mix of traditional grape varieties. 30% of the wine undergoes extensive skin-contact, but everything is wild-fermented and aged in amphorae. Notably, a flor arises after the skins are removed, and the wine continues to age sous-voile for a few more months before bottling. What's so amazing about this wine is that neither the months long maceration nor the aging under flor appear in a way that feels separate from the wines core. Everything is balanced and well integrated; there's tons of freshness, citrus, and florals which are bound together by the wine's firm structure and subtle oxidative qualities. What a value!
